No Right Turn Voters Guide

Keeping up with the extremists on the right is, definitely a full time job, and understanding their impact on the political landscape can be a daunting task. In just a few weeks we will be going to the polls to cast some of the most important votes of our lives, and since it is imperative that we cast an informed vote, I am going to be publishing a list of Congressional candidates by state who are ultra-right wing conservatives who will only contribute to the mounting problem of the War on Women, the War on Civil and Human Rights, and the religious zealotry that is beating down the doors of power in this country. Never before has it been more incumbent upon the American citizen to be informed and well versed before casting that ballot.

Watch the list as I will be adding to it as each state is completed.

2012 STATE GOVERNOR RACES

Who Hid the Thorazine?

I’ve been thinking that it really can’t be easy being a right-wing, hate-mongering, disgruntled, paranoid, old curmudgeon who wakes up every morning with a hard-on for the world. That’s got to be a really hard thing to be.

We, on this end of the political spectrum, really ought to have, at the very least, a modicum of sympathy for these damaged and delusional douche-bags who revel in giving us heartburn and headaches – our life is a piece of cake compared to the daily grind that these people have to endure. I mean, just dreaming up the caustic and bilious prevarications and slanders that they produce must be very tiresome, indeed.

I mean, look at this William Federer, for instance. He’s a fifty-five-year-old, wannabe congressman, looking to score a few more points with the radical, ridiculous, religious right, so he delves deeply into that twisted psyche of his an hatches a prophecy that is beyond irrational.

According to Federer, it is not beyond the scope of rational thought to believe that at some time, pre-election, probably in October, there will be a “fake attack” on the life of President Obama, to which Obama himself is party to. He further “foresees” that the attack will then be blamed on the Tea Party. All of this will be accomplished to assure Obama’s reelection.

Now, this little jewel surfaced a couple of weeks ago, and Federer is pushing it everywhere possible. Last Saturday, on Focal Point, the American Family’s Talk Radio show that bills itself as “Muscular Christianity,” Federer furthered his prophecy by saying that it is possible that the President would intentionally bring about a war between Iran and Israel which he could then use as a pretext to take control of the radio, TV and internet. Or else Obama might fake a plot on his life that can be blamed on the Tea Party, which was just the sort of strategy that Joseph Stalin used as an excuse to kill millions of his enemies!

When asked if he believed that Obama would actually do those things, he replied, “”if you can vote to kill innocent babies, what can’t you justify?”

I swear, sometimes I think I woke up in a parallel universe where someone left the asylum doors open, and we ran out of Thorazine.

The Culture War – “Head For The Sound Of the Guns”

Richard Viguerie, one of the founders of the “Moral Majority,” isn’t a very happy camper. He isn’t at all satisfied with the fact that his beloved right-wing zealots have waged a radical war on women, immigrants, children, the poor, and the elderly, or that they have been successful in disenfranchising voters across the country with their discriminatory voter ID laws. Nope! That just isn’t good enough.

Poor Richard. He wrote a lengthy article today bemoaning the liberal agenda that is ruining this country. With the typical hyperbolic rhetoric that is endemic to those on the religious right, Viguerie cited this week’s convention, wailing…

“In-your-face liberalism was on full display in Charlotte this week. Democrats
offered a truly radical vision of the future that would fundamentally remake
American society and challenged Republicans to engage them on issues from
abortion on demand to abolishing the biblical definition of marriage.”

He then went on to bash the Republicans claiming that aside from Rick Santorum‘s speech, no one spoke on the right-to-life issue and that Republicans seemed “almost embarrassed to mention the social issues.”

Praising Tea Party wave that swept Republicans back into control of the House of Representatives in 2010, he cited what he called “new principled conservative faces,” the likes of which he named: Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker; and Senators Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul, and further claimed that the current “…lack of stomach for the battle on the cultural issues has large, and
negative, consequences for the establishment Republican Party.”

He ended his screed by ominously stating, “It is time for conservatives to head for the sound of the guns in the culture war, to fill the holes in the ranks left by the Republican establishment, and to lead the battle against Barack Obama’s radical secular liberal vision for America.”

Perhaps Richard needs to be reminded that the last time another right-wing nut job mentioned guns and a war on liberals, there was a tragic shooting in Arizona. But, then, if you’re a right-wing crazy, I guess you have an excuse for being irresponsible.

Separation of Church & State????

You only thought there was such a thing as separation of church and state. In this election year we are being smacked right in the face with the ugly fact that such a notion is just a pipe dream. As churches across America pick up the “Take America Back For Jesus” mantra, the radical religious right is fueling their gusto with may staged events all around the country.

In what seems to be an endless litany of scripture bastardizations, and a chorus of not so subtle amens, one event after another is being announced to coerce and badger their huge flocks into marching enmasse to the voting booths in November to cast out the evil black President and replace him with something far more sinister.

The latest? They aren’t waiting for that Sunday before election day. On Sunday, September 8, the Family Research Council, and the American Family Assoiciation, both of which are designated hate groups, will present a live, streaming simulcast from the First Baptist Church of Charlotte to over 2,000 churches and home groups nationwide.

According to their membership email:

FRC President Tony Perkins will serve as host for the simulcast which will also feature former Senator Rick Santorum, actor and producer Kirk Cameron, Shirley Dobson, and video messages from Franklin Graham, and Dr. Fred Luter, the new president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

“iPledge Sunday: A Call to Faith, Family, and Freedom,”the simulcast will gather Christians from across the country to celebrate Christian citizenship and exhort Christians to rise up on Election Day and make their voices heard. Over 2,000 churches and home groups are pledged to participate in what is expected to be the largest nationwide pre-election gathering of Christian voters.

Prior to the simulcast, FRC President Tony Perkins, Sen. Santorum, New York City Councilman Fernando Cabrera and Bishop Harry Jackson will hold a news conference to pre-view the simulcast and discuss the role of values voters in this year’s election. Both can be streamed live online for those unable to attend in-person.

This is but the beginning of the onslaught that church-goers are in for. Scripted sermons, voter packages, voter drives, and lots of instructions to circumvent the separtion of church and state laws are already going out to clergy across the country. The bully pulpits are not going to wait…they will raise their ugly fists, spew their hell-fire and brimstone, and intimidate their brain-washed and cowed congregations into submission by November 6th, come hell or high-water.
