Family Policy Network – Dominionists At Work

FPNAccording to the Family Policy Network, they are a” socially-conservative Christian organization that works to inform Christians and confront the culture on the important moral issues of the day.”

Of course, the “buzz” phrase in all of that is “confront the culture,” because climbing the cultural mountains is what all dominionist seek to do with their Seven Mountains Mandate.

They list as their three primary issues, The Family, Biblical Morality, and Religious Liberties. All of these reek of Dominionist “code speak.” “The Family,” as they see it consists only of a husband, wife, and their offspring. “Biblical Morality,” means nothing less than strict adherence to Old Testament scripture which they claim condemns homosexuality and advocates a patriarchal union between men and women where the woman is subservient to the man. As far as “Religious Liberties,” they mean liberties for Christians and exclusion of all others. This sort of religious supremacy is rampant among dominionist cults. While they are the first to scream about “Sharia Law,” they fail to acknowledge that their Biblical bent is comparable.

The FPN lists its objectives as:

– Educating Christians on important moral issues in public and corporate policy(What they really mean is poisoning the well with Biblical laws on such issues as abortion, birth control, same-sex marriage, and homosexuality.)

Confronting the culture by lifting a standard of righteousness in the public square.(Again we see the Seven Mountains Mandate creeping into their dialogue. Dominion over the “public square” complete with a theocratic ideology is what they seek.)

FPN3– Raising awareness of the harmful effects of immorality on families and communities. (Conquering the family mountain is of the utmost importance. Interestingly, here they would be the morality police making policies dictating what is moral and what is not.)
– Dissuading companies from condoning and/or sponsoring immoral behavior

(Simply put, this group, along with dozens of others, believe that companies and corporations should discriminate against homosexuals, and that homosexuality is a basis for dismissal from employment. Additionally, they have been behind the push toward mandatory birth control coverage.)

– Promoting forgiveness and healing as an “alternative lifestyle” for people involved in the sin of homosexuality (Along with many other dominionist groups, the FPN believes in Reparative Therapy for homosexuals and that gays are a sinful and heinous group who must be reformed before they can be forgiven.)

– Supporting laws protecting families, religious liberties, decency and health (Again, we witness the deliberately innocuous code speak endemic to the Dominionist mindset. The ideas of  religious freedom, protecting families, decency and good health are important to everyone. The use of such buzz words and phrases has worked well in their recruitment activities.)

– Encouraging corporate and public support for honoring America’s Christian heritage (Dominioists are hell-bent on convincing the world that we are a Christian Nation and that we were founded as such. “Heritage” is yet another of those buzz words in their arsenal aplenty.)

– Defending Biblical Christianity as the only answer to life’s ultimate questions (The FPN isn’t even trying to camouflage their dominionist leanings with this one. The use of the word “only” demonstrates their intolerance of all other religions and teachings.

– Equipping and networking Christians together for the purpose of preserving society and advancing the Kingdom of God (Kingdom Theology, proselytizing, and recruiting are all instruments in the Dominionist tool chest. The preservation of society is simply another way of saying “taking dominion.”

– Maintaining Christian humility and integrity in all aspects of the organization’s endeavors. (This begs the question – what is “Christian” humility and integrity? It certainly is an implication that those other than Christians lack these attributes, or, at the very least, that “Christian” humility and integrity is superior to all others.)

The Family Policy Network claims that “Confrontation” is one of their “Strategic Priorities.” They describe this as:

FPN2Working to hold corporations and public officials accountable for actions, policies and statements that undermine traditional values in society, FPN utilizes news releases, Email alerts, media interviews and other venues to confront policies and proposals that would undermine religious liberties, traditional morality, and the value of human life. (Empahsis added)

Dominionists love the word “traditional,” considering it appealing to the masses and underestimating the populace. In a world that is striving for advancement and a forward direction, the Dominionist realizes that their brand of archaic and backward thinking is not as palatable to mainstream America as it used to be, they tend to reach out to those who are disenfranchised or lost with a promise of “Taking America Back.” They capitalize on nostalgia and the remembering of the “good old days” with words like “traditional” and “heritage.”

Knowing that one of the most precious things to most people is “human life” and that we must protect it, they use the term “value human life.” Of course we all do. However, this term, as used by them is directed toward the issue of abortion and a woman’s right to choose.

In response to the recent decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow gay youth into their rank and file, FPN President Joe Glover issued the following statement:

“The Boy Scouts of America should drop the phrase ‘to God’ and ‘morally straight’ from their oath, since they’ve decided to reject His standards of morality. The Bible clearly states homosexuality is a sin against God, and yet the Boy Scouts of America has decided to allow it.

“Parents should only place their children in the care of people who readily accept God’s definition of what it means to be ‘morally straight.’ Unfortunately, the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have chosen a form of moral character that arrogantly rejects God’s written Word.”

For a look into the mindset of the FPN, one has only to look at their “Policy Papers” found here.

It is important to note that this organization, along with many, others exert an enormous amount of pressure upon our elected officials and policy makers to accept their ideas, ideologies, and policies and enact them into law. They wield a lot of influence in the halls of government and have made some major inroads into getting their people into offices of power. Also note that many of these organizations raise enormous sums of money and have many well-heeled foundations and individuals supporting their efforts.

Virginia Republicans Nominate Bigotry To Lead Them

Ken Cuccinelli

Ken Cuccinelli

Virginia – we have a problem! On November 5, of this year you will go to the polls to elect your State Governor and just last week, the Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, won the Republican nomination – seriously? Not only did he win the nomination – but he did so by acclamation! What’s up with that?

Obviously, Virginians haven’t thought this through! Cuccinelli is an ultra-right ideologue with an agenda. And…if that isn’t enough, The Virginia Republican delegates selected E.W. Jackson for Cuccinelli’s Lt. Governor. Now, if that isn’t a pair to draw to!

Let’s look at this.

Cuccinelli is a pro-lifer who believes that life begins at conception. As a former Virginia Senator, good ole boy, Ken, introduced legislation that would prohibit children of illegal immigrants born in the U.S. from becoming citizens. Additionally, he believes that an inability to speak English in the workplace qualifies as grounds for termination.

He is a major 2nd Amendment advocate who believes that a person should only be disqualified for conceal carry permit by a court ruling based on the applicant’s past actions. So, I guess, if a person has a history of mental illness, but hasn’t committed a violent act YET, that person should be given a liscense to carry a firearm.

According to Cuccinelli, the only sex-education that should be taught in public schools is absitenance education.

As to homosexuality, Ken says, “My view is that homosexual acts, not homosexuality, but homosexual acts are wrong. They’re intrinsically wrong. And I think in a natural law based country it’s appropriate to have policies that reflect that. … They don’t comport with natural law. I happen to think that it represents (to put it politely; I need my thesaurus to be polite) behavior that is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society.”

Additionally, Ken Cuccinelli is a friend of big oil and gas and very much against prioritizing any form of green energy. According to his Wikipedia profile:

“On February 16, 2010, Cuccinelli filed a request with the United States Environmental Protection Agency to reopen its proceeding regarding EPA’s finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health. He also sought judicial review of EPA’s finding in Federal court. His press statement explained, “We cannot allow unelected bureaucrats with political agendas to use falsified data to regulate American industry and drive our economy into the ground”.On March 19, Cuccinelli announced that the total number of states supporting Virginia’s position is now at least 15.

“On April 1, 2010, Cuccinelli announced he would challenge the March 2010 standards for fuel efficiency for cars and trucks finalized by the Obama administration and Environmental Protection Agency under the Clean Air Act.”

However, if those things don’t give Virginians a good enough reason to send Cuccinelli packing, looking at the agenda of E.W. Jackson should absolutely deliver the message.

Earl Walker Jackson

Earl Walker Jackson

Earl Walker Jackson, Sr. is a minister, an attorney, and a politician. He is the founder and current president of  Staying True To America’s National Destiny (S.T.A.N.D., an ultra-conservative non-profit organization that’s dedicated to restoring America’s Judeo-Christian ethics.

Jackson claims that he was raised as a Democrat, but his religious views led him to “embrace conservatism.” In 2012, he recorded a video encouraging all African-Americans to leave the Democratic Party claiming that it had abandoned the values of the black community and that blacks had “developed a slavish devotion to the party.”

Right Wing Watch has given us a pretty good insight into just what those American Judeo-Christian values are to Jackson:

Jackson on gays and lesbians:

  • Referred to gays and lesbians as “perverted,” “degenerate,” “spiritually darkened” and “frankly very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally.”
  • Said regarding homosexuality: “it poisons culture, it destroys families, it destroys societies; it brings the judgment of God unlike very few things that we can think of.”
  • Argued that gays seek to “sexualize [children] at the earliest possible age” and use “totalitarian” tactics.
  • Claimed gays are hurting black women: “I’ve heard a lot of young black ladies that a lot of young black men seem to be gay. I’ve heard them complain about it, they say ‘so many of these guys are homosexuals’ and they are frankly frustrated by it.”
  • Demanded the reinstitution of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell : “The military has been decimated by this lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender policy that has now been implemented. It’s an abomination and it’s only going to weaken us militarily and they need to undo it,” warning that the policy’s repeal is a “disaster of historic proportions.”
  • Contended that homosexuality is “killing black men by the thousands” and said of gay rights advocates: “what they’re promoting is killing people.”
  • Called GLSEN founder and anti-bullying activist Kevin Jennings a “radical homosexual activist” who should have been “imprisoned” in a letter demanding he resign as head of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools.
  • Said there is a “direct connection” between gays and pedophilia.

Jackson on Obama and Democrats:

  • Wondered how the Democratic Party “managed to hold on to black Christians in spite of an agenda worthy of the Antichrist.”
  • Proclaimed that “the Democrat Party has shown itself to be anti-Christian, anti-Bible, anti-family, anti-life and anti-God… We’re calling people to come out of the Democrat Party and not support candidates who represent its values and the rebellion that it represents against God. That certainly would include President Barack Obama.”
  • Claimed that Democratic Party supporters are “insulting their faith and blaspheming their God” by supporting a “coalition of the godless.”
  • Warned that ministers who support Obama “are going to have to answer to God” if they encourage “their congregations to support this abomination.”
  • Said Democrats believe “that the Bible is a lie and indeed they are saying that God is a liar.”
  • Argued that “liberalism and their ideas have done more to kill black folks whom they claim so much to love than the Ku Klux Klan, lynching and slavery and Jim Crow ever did, now that’s a fact.”
  • Maintained that Obama “seems to have a lot of sympathy for even radical Islam” and “clearly has Muslim sensibilities,” arguing that Obama “certainly does have a lot of affection and favor for Islam, that seems to be his priority…Christianity, I don’t really think about that with him, I really don’t, that’s a joke.”
  • Compared Democratic leaders to “slave masters” who make sure that black people who disagree with them are “punished.”
  • Insisted that Planned Parenthood “has been far more lethal to Black lives than the KKK ever was.”
  • Predicted that African Americans will “overwhelmingly” vote against Obama as a result of his endorsement of marriage equality and a move of God to “stir the hearts of His people” and push them against the Democrats.
  • Maintained that the President and First Lady are both Communist sympathizers who dislike America.

Now, I have to ask the question – “Is that REALLY what Virginians want representing them?

Right-Wing Hissy-Fit

BSAOh boy! Now those pesky little boy scouts have gone and done it! What the hell was that Board thinking? Now they have the whole of the right-wing fundies on a tear! Good Grief! Imagine doing something like allowing kids who happen to be gay to become a Boy Scout! Why, that flies in the face of all that is holy! I mean, after-all, they will all go camping together, and use the same showers, and, you know, it might rub off! They might recruit otherwise straight, upstanding boys into their lifestyle!

With the ruling of the Boy Scouts of America which will now allow openly gay boys into their organization, the bigoted asshats on the right are on the warpath. They have taken to Twitter and Facebook and other social media to condemn the decision and they aren’t mincing any words.

Rick-perry3Rick Perry, the Dominionist Governor of Texas who favors secession claimed to be “Saddened” that the “BSA bends to the whim of political correctness.” I guess he would rather the BSA continue to discriminate against countless young men who want nothing more than to have some camaraderie with their peers.

birdenstineOklahoma Representative Jim Birdenstine, who was equally offended, grumbled “If the Left were truly tolerant, they would tolerate the Boy Scouts being who they have always been.” That’s right, Jim, we should have just allowed them to continue their bigoted practices and to teach our children to be just like you.

EricksonErick Erickson, the ultra conservative blogger from Red State claimed to have no problem with the BSA making that decision and then told us that “I honestly cannot see me now enrolling my son in the scouts as a result.” Well, that’s too bad. Depriving your child of that experience is a shame. Just think what he could have learned.

FischerOf course, Bryan Fischer from the American Family hate group just had to weigh in. In his usual irascible manner, Bryan said “BSA now stands for Boy Sodomizers of America, because that’s what will happen. Mark my words.” You know, one has to wonder about Bryan. The man doth protest too much.

tony-perkins-photoThen there is Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council who whined “Boy Scouts’ Decision Another Casualty of Moral Compromise.” Of course, we know that the guardians of morality don’t consider how ‘moral’ it is to oppress and discriminate against an entire group of people. That must be a Christian thing?

Matt-BarberDominionist attorney Matt Barber from the Liberty Council issued a rather touching statement, Boy Scouts of America: Born February 8, 1910. Died, May 23, 2013. RIP.” Uh, correct me if I am wrong, but Barber’s specialty is “Constitutional Law.” Since when is it Constitutional to infringe upon a person’s rights?

There were others, all of them similar. Immediately following the BSA’s decision a group of members of the BSA, including parents, scoutmasters, Eagle Scouts, and other leaders announced they would start another group which would adhere to their “timeless values.” They issued the following statement:

“It is with great sadness and deep disappointment that we recognize on this day that the most influential youth program in America has turned a tragic corner. The vote today to allow open and avowed homosexuality into Scouting will completely transform it into an unprincipled and risky proposition for parents. It is truly a sad day for Scouting.

The Boy Scouts of America has a logo that bears the phrase ‘Timeless Values.’ Today, the BSA can no longer use this phrase in good faith. It has demonstrated by its actions that the organization’s values are not timeless, and instead they are governed by changing tides of polls, politics and public opinion.

The saddest part of today’s decision is what the organization is teaching our children and young people in the program.

The BSA is teaching our kids that when your values become unpopular, just change them.

The BSA is teaching our kids that when your convictions are challenged, just cave to peer pressure.

The BSA is teaching our kids that public opinion polls are more important than principles.

Today, the BSA is teaching our kids that you should not stand up for what is right instead you should stand up for what is popular.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to “prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”

The BSA is teaching our kids through its new mission that we don’t make ethical and moral choices through the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law but we make them like an unprincipled politician does, by putting your finger in the air and seeing which way the wind is blowing or by looking at the latest polling results.

What kind of a message are we sending to young people about being brave when its top adult leaders don’t even have the courage to stand up to the pressure of a militant lobby when the bullies in Washington DC, Hollywood or even some of their own renegade councils start pressuring and harassing them?

Each and every one of the thousands of Scouting families that have supported and followed our movement must now make a very difficult decision. We respect the right for each parent and family to decide whether they will continue their membership in the Boy Scouts of American or not.

Many, like me and my family, cannot continue to support an organization more concerned with the intolerant demands of activists while compromising the safety and security of the young people they swore to serve. In July of last year, after a two year study from 2010 to 2012, the BSA’s eleven member task force unanimously concluded that their existing policy on this issue was “the absolute best policy for the Boy Scouts of America.” Suddenly, less than a year later, that is abruptly reversed.

We hoped to keep sex and politics out of Scouting. Now we grieve for those young boys who will not have the wonderful traditions and experiences that so many of us have had in Scouting.

Despite this setback, we will look to the future. I am pleased to announce that OnMyHonor.Net along with other likeminded organizations, parents and BSA members, are announcing a coalition meeting that will take place next month in Louisville, Kentucky. There we will discuss the creation of a new character development organization for boys. While the meeting will be private, your voice is very important to us and will be represented there. We will host and facilitate a national coalition meeting of former BSA parents and other youth leaders who wish to return to truly timeless values that once made the BSA great. We welcome your comments as we develop our plans. Please share your thoughts with us at Contact@OnMyHonor.Net

We grieve today, not because we are faced with leaving Scouting, but because the Boy Scouts of America has left us. Its leadership has turned its back on 103 years of abiding by a mission to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices. Instead, it is embarking on a pathway of social experimentation that we believe will place at risk the very youth the organization is entrusted to serve, while rendering as hollow the tenets of the Scout Oath. Many of us find that unacceptable, and we have a desire to explore how we might serve families and young people at the highest standard originally intended by Scouting’s founder, Robert Baden-Powell.”

The new organization can be found at On My Honor.

It would appear that no matter how hard we try to eliminate or allieviate the racism, bigotry, and hatred in this country there will always be those who cloak themselves in the American flag, thump their Bibles, carry their crosses, and claim to be virtuous. However, the tide is turning – a little slower than we would like – but turning just the same.

Toadying to Feminists – The Schlafly Scream

Toadying to Feminists

The Schalfly Scream

By Nicole Nichols

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” (Shakespeare)

Phyllis Schlafly

Phyllis Schlafly

Well, they’re all doing it, and it was just a matter of time before the Queen of Conservative Hypocrisy entered stage right with her monologue on the perils of women in combat and those wanton feminists. According to Phyllis Schalfly when the sexual attacks in the military occur, “Only men will be deemed at fault because it is feminist ideology that men are innately batterers and women are victims.” That’s right, Phyllis – these women are just “asking for it.”

In a diatribe posted yesterday, the soon to be ninety-year-old self-appointed guardian of morality penned a column on her Eagle Forum website blasting Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta for his decision allowing women into front line combat.

Like so many of the other self-aggrandized right-wing “experts,” her main thrust was that it would increase the number of sexual assaults and compromise the safety of our troops. Most of the arguments which have been proffered by the right are the same, lame, hackneyed claims that they used to dissuade the inclusion of gays in the military. However, Schalfly waded into a much deeper cesspool than most.

She accused Panetta, who is leaving the office, of “…toadying to the feminist officers who yearn to be 3- and 4-star generals based on the feminist dogma of gender interchangeability and on their desire to force men into situations to be commanded by feminists.”

Oh…those ungrateful feminists! Don’t you know that this is all part of a huge feminist agenda being shoved down the throats of those poor oppressed men? Now men might actually find themselves in positions of subservience to (gasp) a woman in comfortable shoes!

Schalfly goes on to raise a series of questions for Panetta about the implementation of his ruling – questions that I am certain Panetta would answer if he ever read the Eagle Forum.

In an effort to persuade the reader that this ruling is detrimental to our forces, Schalfly makes the following statement:

“Retired Army Major General Robert H. Scales explained in the Washington Post that we know from experience with war that the intimate, deliberate, brutal killing of our country’s enemies is best done by small units or teams of men. Four solid buddy pairings of men led by a sergeant compose a nine-man battle-ready combat squad.

“These squads are bound together by the “band of brothers” effect. It is a phrase borrowed from Shakespeare’s Henry V. Centuries of battlefield experience that have taught us that this brotherhood is what causes a young man to risk and even sacrifice his life willingly so his buddies can survive, and that cohesion is a male-only relationship that would be irreparably compromised by including women in the squad.”

Gee, I hate to burst the Schalfly bubble, but I wouldn’t sell our soldiers short. I, for one, believe that the same “bond” of which she speaks can be formed regardless of gender. When faced with a combat situation where the dangers are imminent, I don’t much think that any soldier cares about skin color, sexual orientation, or gender as long as they can trust their fellow soldier to have their backs. Obviously, Phyllis has been deprived of that kind of “bonding” herself – but then, she’s the “expert” – right?

After reading page after page of right-wing hysteria over Panetta’s ruling, a couple of themes stand out the most.

1)    The fear of anything different sends right-wing conservatives into fits of outrageous proportions. This is nothing less than a throwback to the old White Citizens Council and the days of segregation when the scapegoat was African-Americans. Today, the target is women and gays.

2)    For people like Schalfly, their disdain for women is palpable. Bryan Fischer recently wrote an article in which he warned of  “predatory women” in the military. Schalfly insinuates that women in the military are asking to be sexually assaulted. Of course, when your brain has been eroded by continuous theological assault, your ability to process reality is bound to be distorted.

3)    The outrage being expressed is not really about women in combat – it’s about women in the military and any other outfit that people of this mindset deem fit for men only. It’s about their biblical belief that women are the keepers of the home and the bearers of future generations. It’s about male superiority.

Schalfly takes it one step further. Perhaps without realizing it, she also demeans the male gender. According to her statements and claims, men lack self-control when it comes to women. By her evaluation, they cannot help themselves or fight their sexual desires. In the same vein, she belittles them and makes them appear shallow and superficial – unable to form bonds with females that are lasting, platonic in nature, and based upon mutual respect.

Phyllis Schalfly has long been a proponent of all things that represent the extreme religious right. Her stance on homeschooling and stay-at-home mothers, however, applies only to others as she has been anything but. Her views on same-sex-marriage and gay rights apply only to others as she has a son who is gay. And, her views on men and women absolutely suggest that she lacks the real-life experiences of lasting friendships with the opposite sex and the ability to recognize the realities of 21st Century life.

Fearing a loss of power, male domination, and superiority has always been an issue for the extreme right. However, given the fact that the world is changing rapidly combined with an African-American running this country, and an increasing push-back from secular America, the religious right is currently living out a nightmare. They are flailing around and trying desperately to wake up, but until they do, we can expect more of their screams of outrage as each day passes and take their onslaught for what it truly is – sheer desperation.

Concerned Women For America

Concerned Women for America

By Nicole Nichols

Concerned Women for America (CWA) is a 501(c)(3) public policy women’s organization whose main goal is to promote biblical principles in our government and in our society. Started by Beverly LaHaye in the 1970’s, to counter Betty Friedan’s National Organization for Women and its bothersome feminist attempts to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, the group has grown into a powerful lobbying and policy making, and legislative action group.

Beverly LaHaye

Beverly LaHaye

Beverly LaHaye is the wife of Tim LaHaye, an evangelical minister and author. The soon to be eighty-seven year old Timothy has long been associated with religious extremism. Having been a close friend of Jerry Falwell and having sat on the board of the Moral Majority, he also helped establish the Institute for Creation Research.  He is best known as the author of the Left Behind series of apocalyptic fictional books that took the Christian right by storm in the 1990’s.

Beverly, also an octogenarian, is probably best known for her 1976 book “The Act of Marriage: The Beauty of Sexual Love.” She and Tim met while at the Bob Jones University which helps to explain her incredible bias and extremism. Her main objective in her activism appears to be making certain that America is governed by Christian principles that adhere to biblical values.

Much like Phyllis Schlafly, Beverly claims that women should not work outside of the home. Also, much like Schlafly, Beverly wasn’t much of a stay-at-home mom, herself. So much for practicing what you preach.

To understand the nature of  CWA it is essential to understand the founder and her beliefs. CWA’s core issues are abortion, heterosexual marriage, pornography, religious freedom, and national sovereignty. They are frequently involved in legal cases and legislative battles concerning these issues. They vehemently oppose any interference by the United Nations and advocate a complete withdrawal.

Beverly Lahaye claims that the organization was “built on the foundation of the word of God,” and that before anyone becomes politically active it is important that you understand that you are a sinner and deserve punishment in Hell.  To Beverly, feminists are “spiritual forces of darkness” and “abortion, pornography, premarital sex and homosexuality are schemes of the devil.”

Penny Nance

Penny Nance

The current President and CEO of CWA is Penny Young Nance, former advisor to the Federal Communications Commission on media and social issues.  Nance served as an advisor to the Federal Communication Commission on media and social issues where she provided outreach to Congress, public interest groups and the industry.

Prior to her position with the FCC, Nance was the founder and president of the Kids First Coalition which focuses on bringing various children’s issues to the attention of Congress, the media, and the public.

Additionally, Nance has been a consultant for Prison Fellowship Ministries, a prison ministry that was founded by the late Chuck Colson, and whose stated mission is:  “To mobilize and assist the Christian community in its ministry to prisoners, ex-prisoners, victims, and their families; and in the advancement of restorative justice.”

Prison Fellowship Ministries is a branch of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, a wholly dominionist organization seeking to push a biblical agenda into the halls of government and American life.

Janice Shaw Crouse

Janice Shaw Crouse

Janice Shaw Crouse is a cherished Senior Fellow at CWA, and a leader of the Beverly LaHaye Institute – an offshoot of CWA.  In the 1990’s Crouse was on the staff of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, a think tank supported largely by the Scaife, Bradley, and Olin Foundations. Also in the 1990’s she was a speechwriter for George H.W. Bush.

Crouse pens a weekly column for Townhall.com, the American Spectator, the Washington Times, the American Thinker, and Human Events, while serving on the Board of Advisors for the Christian Film and Television Commission.

Vehemently opposed to any sort of sex education in public schools, Crouse holds family and faith as the two most important roles of her moral compass. She maintains that “feminism rests on the fundamental misunderstanding of the origins of power.”  She rejects all alternative life-styles and stands firmly against same-gender marriage.

Shari Rendall

Shari Rendall

Shari Rendall is the Director of Legislation and Public Policy for CWA. In the 1990’s, Rendall worked as a Legislative Aide for Senator Bob Smith out of New Hampshire. Smith was a Republican turned Tax-Payer Party, turned Constitution Party politician. That tells us a lot about the molding of Shar’s political ideology.

She later worked as a year as a telefundraiser for the Republican National Committee until becoming the Manager of Government Relations and Ethics for the National Court Reporters Association, an influential lobbying group.

Mario DiazMario Diaz, Esq. is the Chief Legal Counsel for CWA. According to CWA: “Mr. Diaz is a Constitutional Law scholar who focuses on cases and legislation dealing with CWA’s core issues: religious liberty, sanctity of human life, family and marriage, pornography, education, and national sovereignty. He also directs CWA’s work on judicial nominations and judicial activism.

He writes regular columns for the Washington Times, Human Events, WorldNetDaily, and Townhall.com and has been a featured speaker at the well-known Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

The CWA has four affiliate groups : Concerned Women Education and Legal Defense Foundation; Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC); the Beverly LaHaye Institute; and the Culture and Family Institute.

Concerned Women For America has anywhere between a half million and three-quarters of a million members and a very healthy budget. Conservative politicians covet any endorsement that they can get from CWA, understand that in order to receive that endorsement they must adhere to the ultra-conservative, Christian beliefs that are held by that organization.

Their Statement of Faith is, unequivocally Dominionist in nature:

  • We      believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired, inerrant Word of God and      the final authority on faith and practice.
  • We      believe Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God, was born of a virgin, lived      a sinless life, died a sacrificial death, rose bodily from the dead on the      third day and ascended into Heaven from where He will come again to      receive all believers unto Himself.
  • We      believe all men are fallen creations of Adam’s race and in need of      salvation by grace through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We      believe it is our duty to serve God to the best of our ability and to pray      for a moral and spiritual revival that will return this nation to the      traditional values upon which it was founded

In keeping with that statement, CWA’s their public policy advocacy is thusly diected:

  • Family      – “CWA believes that marriage consists of one man and one woman. We  seek to protect and support the Biblical design of marriage and the gift      of children.” CWA donated $409,000 in support of Proposition 8, which      banned same-sex marriage in the state of California. CWA also opposed the      1988 Act for Better Child Care (H.R. 3660), which would have provided      government-sponsored child care for families in which both parents are      working.
  • Sanctity of Human Life – “CWA supports the protection of all innocent human      life from conception until natural death. This includes the consequences      resulting from abortion.”
  • Education      – “CWA supports reform of public education by returning authority to      parents.” In 1983, CWA helped the plaintiff in the case Mozert v.      Hawkins County School Board, a district court case in which said      plaintiff believed it unconstitutional for said public school district to      require specific reading material for students.
  • Pornography      – “CWA endeavors to fight all pornography and obscenity.”
  • Religious      Liberty – “CWA supports the God-given rights of individuals in the      United States and other nations to pray, worship and express their beliefs      without fear of discrimination or persecution.”
  • National      Sovereignty – “CWA believes that neither the United Nations nor any      other international organization should have authority over the United      States in any area. We also believe the United States has the right and      duty to protect and secure our national borders

Additionally, the CWA supports abstinence only sex-education, and the teaching of Intelligent Design in school curriculum. They oppose abortion in all cases, as well as emergency contraception; pornography, obscenity, and indecency in media; mandating the HPV vaccine; same-gender marriage; hate crime legislation that includes sexual orientation; and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

Because of their size and their influence, Concerned Women For America wields a very heavy hand in promoting right-wing extremism in this country. The have the ears of Congress as well as state level officials and the money and backing to make them very hard to ignore. They are but one more cog in the wheels of this freight train that is careening through America at breakneck speed and delivering a theocratic doctrine to our law-makers.

Military Blues – Shame On The “Radical Left!”

The announcement this week that women will now be allowed to serve in combat roles while in the military has sent the religious right completely over the cliff and into a fit of outrage.

Of course the fingers have been immediately pointed toward the “liberal agenda.” After all, it was the liberals who were responsible for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

Byan Fischer

Byan Fischer

Bryan Fischer, of the American Family Association, is having a field day with this as he predicts a “total sexual meltdown.”

In an interview yesterday with Elaine Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness, Fischer went on a tirade prophesying that the new policy will “undermine readiness, cohesion, security, and lead to a reinstatement of the draft.” Uh…didn’t Fischer say much the same thing about rescinding Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?

He went on to warn of a “complete sexual meltdown” occurring due to “predatory women” trying to sleep with officers, citing CIA head David Petraeus’s affair with a reporter.

Fischer’s American Family Association has already been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of its stand against homosexuals. It would appear that Fischer is trying to make certain that the group live up to that by now including women in their war against all things contradictory to their warped religious views.

 Powerful Voices

Well, this week marked the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade, and, of course, there has been a ton of squawking from the religious right as they marched upon the Supreme Court to brandish their signs of displeasure.

In keeping with the season, the Christian Post announced its list of the Four Most Powerful Pro-Life Female Voices:

  • Marjorie Dannenfelser, the President and Chairman of the Board of the Susan B. Anthony List.
  • Abby Johnson, Chief Research Strategist for Live Action
  • Penny Nance, President and CEO for Concerned Women of America
  • Charmaine Yoest, President and CEO of Americans United For Life.

There you have it – a list of four women who stand firmly behind the Personhood Acts, oppose contraception, and oppose abortion in all cases – even rape. The troubling thing is not that they have powerful voices, but that they have the ears of some of the most powerful people in the country.

 Sekulow’s War Against Women

On Thursday, January 24, 2013, the American Center for Law & Justice filed its fourth direct challenge to the mandate of the Department of Health and Human Services that requires employers to provide health insurance which covers contraceptives.

Jay Sekulow

Jay Sekulow

Jay Sekulow, the Chief Council for the ACLJ, has long been on a crusade prove that such a mandate violates the First Amendment, The Religious Freedom and Restoration Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act. So far, he has not been successful.

Sekulow has built a financial empire and lives a lavish lifestyle which is suspicious for anyone who is employed by a charitable organization. However, it speaks volumes about his inability to understand the importance of contraceptives to those lowly, hard-working individuals who simply cannot afford another mouth to feed.

 Demons & Exorcists

Now, for the really crazy stuff! We knew that the airy high that we were experiencing following the inauguration couldn’t last for long. Gordon Klingenschmitt, a religious right extremist of the

nth degree, who considers himself a “gay exorcist,” didn’t just go off the rails – he took the train right into the river of insanity.

In an email that went out to the followers of is “Pray In Jesus Name” project, he actually claimed that President Obama’s support for gay equality is an “open invitation to the devil and demonic rule.” He went on to postulate that Obama is “making Satan equal to God as he declares the demonic to be Godly.”

According to Klingenschmitt, “There is one reason homosexual sodomy will never be “equal” to traditional marriage: Satan will never be equal to God.”

He closed his email asking for all of his followers to “…pray for our President to repent, and renounce evil, and invite the Holy Spirit to rule his heart? Then let’s petition all 100 Senators to protect traditional marriage.”

It is important to note that Gordon Klingenschmitt is the author of an ebook that chronicles how President Obama is ruled by 50 demons. The scariest part is, he actually has a following.

Arm the Students & Kill Obamacare

In the wake of his waning popularity, Glen Beck continues to promote loony-tunes David Barton. Last week, Beck had Barton on his television show which, thank God, largely went unnoticed. Barton is this quirky little evangelical minister who considers himself a historian and promotes rewriting school textbooks to reflect a white, Christian perspective. He is the founder of WallBuilders, a Texas outfit that works against the separation of church and state.

Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck

The program initially started out as a discussion over health-care. Glenn Beck, true to his ignorance, claimed that Obamacare would lead to people being forced to relinquish their guns. How he manages to justify that statement is anyone’s guess, but in Beck’s world, I would imagine that there are those who get his train of thought. He also claimed that the Act would lead to “Nazi-like euthanasia programs.”

Somehow, the talk turned to gun control and the recent school shootings. Barton, not to be outdone by Beck’s hallucinations, told the audience that the NRA had been established in order to protect freed slaves from lynchings – and that there never used to be school shootings in the 1800’s because all of the kids took their guns to school.

There you have it! Arm the kids and solve the problem!
