Christians At War Over Christmas

war on christmasWell, it’s the holiday season again, and, of course, the sky is falling! The religious right-wing zealots are absolutely out of their minds with visions of Jesus dancing in their heads. After all, Christ is under attack, and Christians are being persecuted, and by God this is a Christian nation!

“Atheists” are aspiring to deconstruct the whole idea of Christmas and the Christmas tradition, don’t you know!

We seem to go through this every year, it seems. And, now, those who are creating the biggest stink over the use of “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas” have been getting a little pushback from the more mainstream and rational Christians. That resistance to this ridiculous tirade has the zealots really pissed off.

One of the groups leading the pack of disgruntled Evangelical’s is the American Family Association, an extreme hate group who continuously spews its venom toward all things non-Christian, non-heterosexual, secular, and logical.

According to Right-Wing Watch, an article in this month’s AFA journal makes the following statement:

“… over the last couple of years, AFA has found itself being targeted – either implicitly or explicitly – by other Christians. Whether it’s from Rachel Held Evans on the evangelical left or Russell Moore on the evangelical right, some Christians have chided and condemned AFA’s pro-Christmas campaigns.”

Finally, it appears that the “Real Christians” are starting to speak out against the intolerance, bigotry, and outlandish behaviors of the extremists who have cast a very dark cloud over the whole of the Christian religion.

With that in mind, I will take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Happy Holiday Season or a very Merry Christmas. However you celebrate the season (or don’t) is fine with us at Crooked Crosses.

When it comes to judging America for its sins, God is an absolute doofus

Brilliant Observations from a very talented writer!

Progressive Culture | Scholars & Rogues

Lately I’ve been trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with God. And having no luck at all.

If you’ve been paying attention, by now you’ve figured out that natural calamities are God’s judgment on America. Preachers preach it and Christians believe it. When a hurricane hits, for example, it’s usually because we’re being unholy in some way or another. Drinking, fornicating, gambling, etc. But mainly the queers.

Katrina was God’s judgment. And it’s just beginning. Because of the Pride Parade. (A Google search on “Katrina God’s judgment” returns 129,000 hits, by the way.) Sandy? God’s judgment.

Tornadoes are God’s judgment. Earthquakes are God’s judgment. Forest fires, famine, volcanos – God’s judgment. You get the point.

Fine. God isn’t happy and he’s sending us a message. A warning shot across the bow, as it were. But…you can’t help wondering. Is God stupid? Does he…

Mitch McConnell Again? Kentucky What ARE You Thinking?

McConnell 3On November 4, 2008, I sat and watched as the election results rolled in like so many others. Actually I was doing a BlogTalk Radio Show with anti-racist expert, Floyd Cochran. As the results of the Senatorial election in Kentucky were revealed, I just shook my head in amazement and asked “What the hell were the people in Kentucky thinking?” You see, ReBiblican extraordinaire, Mitch McConnell had garnered nearly 53% of the vote. Outrageous!

Yes…I know that Kentucky has historically been a red state – but, Mitch McConnell? Get serious!

Rand Paul On November 6, 2012, I was live blogging and in lively discussion over at God’s Own Party as the election results rolled in. Rand Paul took 59% of the vote in Kentucky – OMG! All I could think of was that the good people of Kentucky who constituted the 41% who had the good sense to vote for someone other than Paul had better put on their wading boots, their flack jackets, and buckle their seat belts because the ride was fixing to get bumpy – and UGLY!

I do love it when I’m right…usually. But, in this case, I so wanted to be wrong! Maybe the Rapture would come after all and take them both to the Pearly Gates. But…that’s only for the righteous…or so they say.

Well, in less than a year and a half, Kentuckians will have an opportunity to begin redeeming themselves and gaining some credibility as a knowledgeable and informed electorate – or not. On November 14, 2014, there will be 33 Senate seats up for grabs and one of them belongs to Mitch McConnell. He’s already laying the groundwork and bringing his brand of douche-baggery into the campaign arena. After pretty much ruining a young reporters life, McConnell is already under investigation for ethics violations during this campaign.

And to top everything off, McConnell is now courting the Tea Party!

So who is this miscreant and what is his nefarious agenda? Let’s pull back the proverbial covers on Mitch McConnell and see what he is all about.

Mitch McConnell was born on February 20, 1942, in Tuscumbia, Alabama and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He took office in 1985. He has been referred to as “The most powerful Republican on the Planet,” and is considered a “Kingmaker” in Kentucky Republican politics.

McConnell 2He is certainly the consummate conservative with strong religious beliefs: Opposed to abortion; opposed to same-sex marriage and gay adoptions; opposed to Affirmative Action; Opposed to the separation of church and state; in favor of prayer in public schools and faith-based initiatives; in favor of an absolute right to gun ownership; opposed to raising taxes on the wealthy; in favor of privatizing Social Security; and, of course, in favor of expanding the military.

On January 2, 2013, the Public Campaign Action Fund, a nonprofit group that backs stronger campaign finance regulation, released a report highlighting eight instances from McConnell’s political career in which a vote or a blocked vote (filibuster), coincided with an influx of campaign contributions to McConnell’s campaign. Progress Kentucky, a SuperPAC focused on defeating Mitch McConnell in 2014, hosted a press conference in front of the senator’s Louisville office to highlight the report’s findings.

McConnell, in 2010, was ranked the 10th wealthiest member of the U.S. Senate with a personal fortune somewhere in the neighborhood of $45 million.

Morton BlackwellNow for the really good stuff. Mitch McConnell is an alumni and speaker for the Leadership Institute. The Leadership Institute, in spite of calling itself bipartisan, is a right-wing training ground for young conservatives founded by Morton Blackwell.

An excellent report on the Institute can be found at Salon Magazine.

With a $9 million annual budget, the Institute has trained over 40,000 conservatives in the last 25 years and is still counting. Among those alumni are Karl Rove, Grover Norquist, Mike Pence, Ralph Reed, and James O’Keefe, to name a few.

The mission of the Institute is “to increase the number and effectiveness of conservative activists” and to “identify, train, recruit and place conservatives in politics, government, and media.” And that is exactly what they achieve.

In 1997, Mitch McConnell founded the JamesMadisonCenter for Free Speech – a legal defense organization in Washington, D.C. Among other things, the Center supports the recognition of the Ten Commandments as one of America’s founding texts, and opposed a measure proposed by the Federal Election Commission to ban non-profits from expressing views on public policy.

McConnell’s General Counsel for the Center is James Bopp. James Bopp was an advisor to Mitt Romney’s campaign, and has served as the General Counsel for National Right to Life since 1978, and as special Counsel for Focus on the Family since 2004.

BoppAccording to his resume, the following are some of his clients: National Organization for Marriage; National Right to Life Committee; Focus on the Family; Susan B. Anthony List; The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice; Catholic Answers; Christian Broadcasting Network; Salem Radio; Priests For Life; Traditional Values Coalition; Homeschool Legal Defense Association; Vision America; Common Sense America; Life Issues Institute; Christian Coalition; Christian Life Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention; Concerned Women For America; National Right to Work Legal Defense and Education Foundation; Club for Growth; Citizens United; Fereation of American Immigration Reform; National Federation of Independent Business; Republican Governors Association; The Libertarian Party; and the Republican National Committee.

So…it would appear that all of the Dominionist and ReBiblican bases are covered, not to mention that the majority of the entities listed are major contributors to the campaigns of right-wing zealots who promote and perpetuate a far-right religious agenda.

It is also worth noting that Bopp was a legal advisor to Citizens United leading up to their victory in the Supreme Court that labeled businesses as people. Because of this and some of the other groups and causes that he has represented, he has earned the label “Public Enemy #1 for fair elections.”

The very fact that Mitch McConnell has been in office for 28 years and is seeking another term should send up a lot of red flags to Kentucky voters. His affiliations, associations, and voting record should certainly sound some alarms. The fact that they are stuck with a looney-tunes poster child in Rand Paul until 2016, should send all of them scurrying to the polls next year to eliminate at least one of these reprobates. But ‘should’s’ and ‘will’s’ are two different things, I realize.

I would ask Kentuckians to remember that these are National Senators, notState. Consequently, while the decisions made by those in the U.S. Senate may reflect the values or the wishes of their constituency in the home state, they definitely conflict with those of sane and lucid Americans who would prefer not to be subjected to the backwoods whims of theocratic ignoramuses who wish to take America backward. You see, forward motion is the goal.

Bryan Fischer Goes Politically Incorrect – Again!

Bryan Fischer is the Director of Issues Analysis for the American Family Association – a designated hate group. He is also a key activist in the Dominionist Movement. He hosts the talk radio program “Focal Point” on American Family Radio and posts on the AFA blog, “Instant Analysis.”

Like all of these extremists, Fischer opposes abortion, national health care, environmentalism, gay adoption, and same sex marriage. But, yesterday he decided not to be “politically correct,” (gasp) and issued the following statement:

“Now, I am gonna say something here and I don’t care that it is politically incorrect. And i know if Right Wing Watch picks up on this or anybody else they’re just gonna lacerate me for this. I don’t care. From a biblical standpoint, it’s very clear that men are designed to be the breadwinners for their families. That’s the way God set it up; that’s the way he designed it. Husbands are to use their stamina and their strength and their brainpower – not that they’re smarter than women, I’m not saying that – but God’s given them a brain and the purpose for using their mental ability is to provide for their families, to use their physical strength to work hard, to work long hours, to use their physical strength to protect their wives and protect their children and be providers for them. That is the biblical pattern. And the biblical pattern is for a wife and a mother to focus her energies, devote her energies on [sic] making a home for her children and for her husband. And there’s another problem, is the number of married mothers who out earn their husbands. That number has quadrupled and I – and again I’m gonna be politically incorrect here – I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t think it’s a healthy dynamic to have the wife out earn her husband because so much of his sense of worth as a male is tied up in what he does vocationally and providing for his family. That’s his calling. That’s not his wife’s job to provide for his family. He knows that it’s his job. And if he has a wife that out earns him I think that’s gonna put some stress on his psyche, gonna put some stress on that marriage.”

Well, shame on all of you women who have clawed your way to the top and now earn more than the macho guy you married! Don’t you realize how badly you are damaging his psyche when you do that? Stay the hell at home. Get knocked up. Wash the dishes and cook the meals, and do as you are told!

Family Policy Network – Dominionists At Work

FPNAccording to the Family Policy Network, they are a” socially-conservative Christian organization that works to inform Christians and confront the culture on the important moral issues of the day.”

Of course, the “buzz” phrase in all of that is “confront the culture,” because climbing the cultural mountains is what all dominionist seek to do with their Seven Mountains Mandate.

They list as their three primary issues, The Family, Biblical Morality, and Religious Liberties. All of these reek of Dominionist “code speak.” “The Family,” as they see it consists only of a husband, wife, and their offspring. “Biblical Morality,” means nothing less than strict adherence to Old Testament scripture which they claim condemns homosexuality and advocates a patriarchal union between men and women where the woman is subservient to the man. As far as “Religious Liberties,” they mean liberties for Christians and exclusion of all others. This sort of religious supremacy is rampant among dominionist cults. While they are the first to scream about “Sharia Law,” they fail to acknowledge that their Biblical bent is comparable.

The FPN lists its objectives as:

– Educating Christians on important moral issues in public and corporate policy(What they really mean is poisoning the well with Biblical laws on such issues as abortion, birth control, same-sex marriage, and homosexuality.)

Confronting the culture by lifting a standard of righteousness in the public square.(Again we see the Seven Mountains Mandate creeping into their dialogue. Dominion over the “public square” complete with a theocratic ideology is what they seek.)

FPN3– Raising awareness of the harmful effects of immorality on families and communities. (Conquering the family mountain is of the utmost importance. Interestingly, here they would be the morality police making policies dictating what is moral and what is not.)
– Dissuading companies from condoning and/or sponsoring immoral behavior

(Simply put, this group, along with dozens of others, believe that companies and corporations should discriminate against homosexuals, and that homosexuality is a basis for dismissal from employment. Additionally, they have been behind the push toward mandatory birth control coverage.)

– Promoting forgiveness and healing as an “alternative lifestyle” for people involved in the sin of homosexuality (Along with many other dominionist groups, the FPN believes in Reparative Therapy for homosexuals and that gays are a sinful and heinous group who must be reformed before they can be forgiven.)

– Supporting laws protecting families, religious liberties, decency and health (Again, we witness the deliberately innocuous code speak endemic to the Dominionist mindset. The ideas of  religious freedom, protecting families, decency and good health are important to everyone. The use of such buzz words and phrases has worked well in their recruitment activities.)

– Encouraging corporate and public support for honoring America’s Christian heritage (Dominioists are hell-bent on convincing the world that we are a Christian Nation and that we were founded as such. “Heritage” is yet another of those buzz words in their arsenal aplenty.)

– Defending Biblical Christianity as the only answer to life’s ultimate questions (The FPN isn’t even trying to camouflage their dominionist leanings with this one. The use of the word “only” demonstrates their intolerance of all other religions and teachings.

– Equipping and networking Christians together for the purpose of preserving society and advancing the Kingdom of God (Kingdom Theology, proselytizing, and recruiting are all instruments in the Dominionist tool chest. The preservation of society is simply another way of saying “taking dominion.”

– Maintaining Christian humility and integrity in all aspects of the organization’s endeavors. (This begs the question – what is “Christian” humility and integrity? It certainly is an implication that those other than Christians lack these attributes, or, at the very least, that “Christian” humility and integrity is superior to all others.)

The Family Policy Network claims that “Confrontation” is one of their “Strategic Priorities.” They describe this as:

FPN2Working to hold corporations and public officials accountable for actions, policies and statements that undermine traditional values in society, FPN utilizes news releases, Email alerts, media interviews and other venues to confront policies and proposals that would undermine religious liberties, traditional morality, and the value of human life. (Empahsis added)

Dominionists love the word “traditional,” considering it appealing to the masses and underestimating the populace. In a world that is striving for advancement and a forward direction, the Dominionist realizes that their brand of archaic and backward thinking is not as palatable to mainstream America as it used to be, they tend to reach out to those who are disenfranchised or lost with a promise of “Taking America Back.” They capitalize on nostalgia and the remembering of the “good old days” with words like “traditional” and “heritage.”

Knowing that one of the most precious things to most people is “human life” and that we must protect it, they use the term “value human life.” Of course we all do. However, this term, as used by them is directed toward the issue of abortion and a woman’s right to choose.

In response to the recent decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow gay youth into their rank and file, FPN President Joe Glover issued the following statement:

“The Boy Scouts of America should drop the phrase ‘to God’ and ‘morally straight’ from their oath, since they’ve decided to reject His standards of morality. The Bible clearly states homosexuality is a sin against God, and yet the Boy Scouts of America has decided to allow it.

“Parents should only place their children in the care of people who readily accept God’s definition of what it means to be ‘morally straight.’ Unfortunately, the leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have chosen a form of moral character that arrogantly rejects God’s written Word.”

For a look into the mindset of the FPN, one has only to look at their “Policy Papers” found here.

It is important to note that this organization, along with many, others exert an enormous amount of pressure upon our elected officials and policy makers to accept their ideas, ideologies, and policies and enact them into law. They wield a lot of influence in the halls of government and have made some major inroads into getting their people into offices of power. Also note that many of these organizations raise enormous sums of money and have many well-heeled foundations and individuals supporting their efforts.

Dominionist Speak

brainWhen I first started researching Dominionism and the dangers that it poses, I thought my brain would explode! It has been one of the most challenging feats that I have ever attempted.

This learning curve was exacerbated by the sheer number of individuals and entities involved in the movement, but it was the terminology that created the most frustrating of all obstacles I had to overcome.

As I have stated many times over, the Dominionists are masters at deception and stealth maneuvers. They have become extremely savvy at marketing and branding themselves as anything other than what they truly are. And…they certainly have a way with words.

In order to gain a reasonable understanding of what they are truly all about and how they differ from mainstream Christians I knew that I had to understand the terminology behind their movement as well as the Christian religion in general. Consequently, I began to generate a glossary of the most common terms and definitions associated with both.

This glossary is anything but complete – it is a work in progress and will be added to on a regular basis. However, I thought that it might prove helpful to others who are trying to understand this subject.

NOTE: The Glossary does not include the many buzz-words and phrases that are used by Dominionist to bamboozle and confound the unsuspecting. That will appear in a post dedicated to just that.

Ahh…Men Will Be Men

Remember – he’s a man, and men have a tendency to “wander,” after all. So…he cheated on you – are you doing everything that you can to make a happy home? I mean, after all, he was captured by that stripper in that hotel room and now it’s your job to set him free!

Say what?

Pat Robertson, the evangelical who, along with Jerry Falwell blamed the 9-11 terror attacks on the ACLU, the pagans, the abortionists, the feminists, and the gays and lesbians, today, on the 700 Club, told a woman whose husband had been cheating on her that she should stop focusing on the act of adultery and start focusing on the positives.

“Does he provide a home for you to live in, does he provide food for you to eat, does he provide clothes for you to wear, is he nice to the children…is he handsome?”

In that fatherly manner so many gullible souls buy into he stared into the camera he told the anguished woman to give her husband honor and to remember that he was a man.

So much for that pesky little 7th Commandment, you see, that only applies to women. Funny how many self-professed Christians seem to get around those rules that they claim everyone else should live by.

The Dominionist Connection

The Menage a trois between Big Business, Government, and Religion – A birds-eye view

By Nicole Nichols

Climbing mountains is never easy, however, if you are climbing those mountains in the metaphorical sense, it behooves you to have beaucoup bucks behind you and a lot of powerful people to push you all the way to the top. If you are a Dominionist hell-bent on taking over the world, you really don’t much care who you climb in bed with or who scratches your back. Hence, we are now witnessing the co-mingling and fraternization of religious extremists, politicians, think-tanks, Super PACs, and big business as the Dominionists seek to reach the pinnacle of that mountain of government.

What we are truly watching is a union, a marriage, if you will, of the church and the state. One of the most coveted tenets of the Founding Fathers of this country was the separation of these two entities, yet those who bellow the loudest about preserving the Constitution and the ideals of those Fathers, are fighting within the framework to circumvent the very doctrine which has served us so well.

For an eye-opening experience, we now take a look at just one of the many groups who are in the midst of that battle and how they have managed to wrangle their way into the inner circle of power brokers.

The passage of Citizens United by the Supreme Court of the United States sent shockwaves throughout the nation. Affording corporations the same rights as people and allowing an unprecedented wave of money to be sent into campaign coffers allows the mega-wealthy to purchase elections of officials who will be even more beholden to their benefactors than they are to their constituents. Petition drives are being held all over our country and congressmen and women are being lobbied to put an end to that ruling as the general populace understands the ramifications of such an enactment. Yet, do they really?

The Citizens United Foundation was begun in 1988, as the brainchild of Floyd G. Brown. It is a nonprofit corporation with a 501(c)(4) Tax exempt status affiliated with the Presidential Coalition and the Conservative Victory Committee and located on Pennsylvania Avenue in the Capitol Hill District of Washington, D.C. The Foundation has been instrumental in creating many controversies and in successfully helping to elect many extreme-right candidates.  Besides Floyd G. Brown, Founder and Chairman of the Board, its officers include: David Bossie, Chairman; Michael Boos, President and General Counsel; Brian J. Berry, Director; Douglas L. Ramsey, Secretary-Treasurer; Ron Robinson, Director; and Bob Barr, Congressman and Honorary Chairman.

The stated mission of the organization is:

“CUF is dedicated to informing the American people about public policy issues which relate to traditional American values, including: the Constitution as the supreme limit on federal power, a strong national defense as the primary role of the federal government; free enterprise as the economic system that has enabled the American people to attain and maintain an historically high standard of living; belief in God and Judeo/Christian values as the fundamental attribute of our way of life; and the recognition of the family as the basic social unit of our society.”

There are a daunting number of groups engaged in running an extreme right-wing agenda on the American people, and following the money and power trails of any of those groups will lead to the same results. However, because of the numerous congressional candidates endorsed by Citizens United and its various entities, it became the obvious place to begin this trek into the dark realm of the blending of religion and politics and the impending marriage of church and state.

For a visual explaining the immediate reach of Citizens United, as a whole, click the chart below – and remember this is just a drop in the bucket when it comes to the influence and power that this one group has.

DAVID BOSSIE

Back in the year 2000, colleagues David Bossie and Floyd G. Brown collaborated on a book entitled, “Prince Albert: The Life and Lies of Al Gore.” There’s little surprise there given the fact that both men are devout climate change deniers and evolution myth theorists.

David Bossie, an acolyte of Ronald Reagan, went to work for Floyd Brown at the Presidential Victory Committee back in 1992. He had already come into prominence, and perhaps flown into Brown’s radar, when he and another colleague attempted to show that Susann Coleman had become impregnated by, and committed suicide, after an affair with her law professor, Bill Clinton.  Interestingly, Bossie was hired by Fred Thompson’s U.S. Senate Investigation of the Whitewater Scandal as a lead investigator, to look into Clinton’s financial abuses.

During the investigation it came to light that Bossie, et. al. had published tapes that had been redacted. Bossie was summarily fired.

Once sitting pretty in Brown’s Citizens United Foundation, and feeling right at home with those of the same mind-set, Bossie began to focus his attention on the Citizens United Productions division. Creating such films as: Border War: The Battle Over Illegal Immigration; Celsius 41.11; Rediscovering God in America, hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich; Hillary: The Movie; and Occupy Unmasked, Bossie and friends were riding high in their saddle as a major righ-ring propaganda mill.

It was, of course, Hillary: The Movie that brought them into the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court of the United States. When they were sued before the film was scheduled to be released in early 2008, the suit also brought with it an injunction. Unfortunately, for Bossie and friends, the appeals court did not hear the case until 2010, and the movie was then untimely. However, the Supreme Court ruling referred to by us today simply as Citizens United, sent an outcry throughout the country which is still reverberating today.

In addition to his office at Citizens United, Bossie is a member of the National Conservative Campaign Fund, and has served as Director of Programs at the prestigious right-wing Leadership Institute which is home to many of the Christian right politicians.  Additionally, he is listed as the President and Manager of the Presidential Coalition, a Republican front group that is closely affiliated with Citizens United and instrumental in funding state and local candidates – so close, in fact that they share the same address at 1006 Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s a cozy relationship.  But, that’s not the only coziness that Bossie enjoys. Sleaze or not, his gallery of running buddies is vast as you can see on the chart below:

The Stealth Marriage Between Church and State

The Stealth Marriage Between Church and State

FLOYD G. BROWN

As the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Citizens United, Brown can only be categorized as an “ultra-conservative, dominionist” with a radical agenda for the United States of America. Along with Citizens United he has served as the Executive Director of Young America’s Foundation, an outreach program whose goal is indoctrination of our youth into the culture of extreme politics. Active on college campuses, the YAF engages such speakers as John Stossel, Ann Coulter, and David Horowitz. The YAF also promotes Horowitz’s Intellectual Diversity Movement which believes that the curriculum being taught is based in liberalism and that the conservative ideology is not being presented.

The YAF operates the Reagan Ranch, also known as Rancho Del Cielo where it conducts conferences, seminars, internships, and disseminates “educational” materials throughout the nation.

Brown’s ultra-conservatism doesn’t stop there, however. He is also President of Excellentia, Inc. which he founded in 2007. Excellentia, Inc. bills itself as a Conservative and Christian Marketplace. They provide fundraising; campaign and strategy development; direct mail; copy writing and production; radio and TV production and scripts; and ad placement and analysis services. According to their website:

“Climb your mountain of success with our help. We have a passion for serving in the marketplace of ideas. We have been in the business of promoting conservative and Christian ideas for over 30 years. Our professionals have developed some of the most memorable marketing campaigns in recent history. We will help you reach your community of interest with unparalleled success. Successful clients have included non profit organizations, political campaigns and publishing organizations.”

A frequent guest on network and cable TV shows, and a contributor to several publications, Brown became obsessed with the Clinton’s. He published a slim paperback entitled “Slick Willie: Why America Cannot Trust Bill Clinton,” in which he went on the standard diatribe about Clinton being a friend of labor unions and a “draft dodger” he also asserted: “Bill Clinton’s America sees no difference between families of ‘homosexual lovers’ and the traditional, monogamous, faithful family…In addition, Mr. Clinton has surrendered completely to the pro-abortion feminists who dominate the Democratic Party.”

In 2007, Brown co-founded the National Campaign Fund along with Bruce E. Haekins, James V. Lacey, Tim Kelley and Michael Reagan. The purpose was to fund the presidential campaigns of  John McCain and Rudy Giuliani as they were concerned about the popularity of Hillary Clinton.

In 1992, during an interview with the Washington Times, Brown stated:

“I have a sense of what connects with people like me. We’re not culturally Republicans. We’re not libertarians. We’re not neo-conservatives or former liberals. We’re just old-fashioned, blue collar social conservatives. These are people who couldn’t care less about politics, want to be left alone by government, but if their country calls for them to fight abroad, will. You win elections by cultivating people like me.”

Nothing could have been further from the truth. The barely thirty-one year old Brown had waded into the dark side of the political arena several years earlier when he started Citizens United and began to organize political campaigns along with an effort to secure Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas an appointment, and the campaigns against Michael Dukakis and Bill Clinton. Brown came to notoriety, however, during the Dukakis campaign when he produced the infamous “Willie Horton ads.” Later, he played a prominent role in the Whitewater Scandal.

Brown and his National Campaign Fund created an anti-Obama website which they update regularly at ExposeObama.com. Filled with anti-Obama hatred and venom accusing him of being soft on crime and islamo-fascism, the website has been criticized nationally for the misinformation that it distributes.

Brown sits on the Council for National Policy, a powerful and highly secretive group of largely Dominionist political figures who hold clandestine meetings and initiate policies to further an extreme agenda of theocracy and ultra-conservatism.

While Brown is considered odious in many circles, he carries a big stick and hob-nobs with others even more tainted than he. His expertise in the area of swift-boat advertising is much sought after by the right and the desperate. This does not, however, diminish the effectiveness of Brown’s campaign acuity. His associates are every bit as ruthless as Brown, and every bit as determined to succeed.

To realize just how connected Floyd Brown is, check out the chart below which depicts those with whom he hob-nobs, infuences, and supports as well as some of their affiliations.

MICHAEL BOOS

Michael Boos is the Vice President and General Council for Citizens United. He is also the Director of the American Sovereignty Action Project of Manassas, Virginia which is yet another fundraising arm of Citizens United. In addition, he is in charge of the Presidential Coalition and in 2007, he registered another 527 Committee, the 2007 Conservative Victory Committee. Of course, all of this is nothing less than circumventing campaign finance laws and finding creative ways to channel and funnel large sums of money into the election process. We get that.

That being said, it also muddies the waters and helps to make things much more difficult for the unwashed peasants, which are the American people to these folks, to understand and realize just what the hell is going on and how they are being hoodwinked by a bunch of greedy bastards who want nothing less than to rule the world.

In addition to his other various and sundry duties, Michael Boos acts as the Program Director for the Young America’s Foundation. In short, the organization, another offshoot of Citizens United, is engaged in the promotion of conservative ideas on college campuses throughout the United States. However, the group has come under a lot of fire as one of their unstated objectives is to “keep track of what the left-wing opposition is up to,” according to Fredric L. Rice from SkepticFiles.org. in 1988.

Rice accused Boos of “keeping files, making lists, taking photographs all to keep an eye on students and professors he says ‘need watching.’ Boos didn’t deny that he does just that. In fact, he justified his actions by claiming that two top-level Reagan Administration officials, Ken Cribb, Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs, and Frank Donatelli, the President’s chief political advisor support his work. Of course, both of those men serve on the YAF’s Board of Directors, and it isn’t the first time that Donatelli has been linked to Citizens United.

Prior to joining the YAF staff, Boos was the Campaign Director for the National Conservative Political Action Committee. He also served as the Executive Director for the Legal Affairs Council where he gallantly represented conservatives and their values in the nations court system.

Boos is closely tied to the Conservative Victory Committee and the Presidential Coalition. Along with his other endeavors, he can only be considered as a mover and shaker in our national elections, and a front man for some very powerful people.  Given the fact that the American Sovereignty Action Project is listed as a member of the Free Congress Foundation, it must be noted that Michael’s arms reach far and wide.  See the chart below.

Brian J. Berry

Brian J. Berry serves as the Director of Citizens United. Berry has been around the horn a time or two and has lots of experience in directing political campaigns. In 1993, Brian directed the successful campaign of Kay Bailey Hutchison, the big-oil candidate from Texas,  as well as the primary campaign for George W, Bush’s first run for Governor in 1994.

He is now the head honcho at Strategy Group for Media, a production and promotion media firm that creates campaign ads for right-ring conservatives who they deem “good people.” In 2012, they worked closely with “Restoring America” and the “Freedom Club,” to produce ad campaigns for state, local, and national campaigns.

On Berry’s Board of Directors is none other than Rex Elsass, who presides over the group and lends his advice to several notable candidates, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Todd Akin, to name a few. As a born-again Christian, he has been labeled as the ring leader of a GOP dirty-tricks group called “The Nasty Boys.” This relationship shouldn’t come as any major surprise as many of the Citizens United group are known to be nothing less than smear-merchants who will stop at nothing when it comes to besmirching the wicked liberals who threaten to gain any seat of power.

In the November, 2012, elections the Strategy Group engaged in more than 300 campaigns across the country and now boast an 80% win rate. They elected seven of 35 freshman members of Congress, (Scott Perry (PA); Keith Rothfus (PA); Thomas Massie (KY); Andy Barr (KY); Steve Daines (MT); Markwayne Mullin (OK) and Ann Wagner (MO). They re-elected more than 25 incumbent members of Congress, defeated two of five incumbent Democrats, and elected one of the four GOP gubernatorial winners.

Their biggest victories, however, were at the state level where they managed to retain majorities in the Ohio State House and Senate, the Wisconsin Assembly, and the Pennsylvania Senate. They flipped the Wisconsin State Senate back to the GOP and made significant gains for Republicans in the Kentucky State House. Additionally, they take the credit for the election of the infamous Supreme Court Justice in Alabama – Justice Roy Moore.

Consequently, Brian J. Berry and his twisted group of slanderous manipulators fit quite well into the deviant and unscrupulous realm of Citizens United.

Douglas L. Ramsey

Douglas L. Ramsey is somewhat of an enigma within Citizens United. Serving as the Secretary – Treasurer of Citizens United, he is also the Director of Strategic Alliances at Victory Studios, a full-service media company out of Seattle, Washington.

Ramsey is described as a “Career media veteran with extensive management and business development experience in all media forms. He held senior management positions with the Seattle Seahawks as Senior Director of Business Development and the Seattle SuperSonics as Director of Corporate Sponsorship and Broadcast Development.

Undoubtedly, he brings management, marketing, and business acumen to Citizens United.

Ron Robinson

Like so many of his cohorts, Ron Robinson is a Reaganite. He served as an advisor to the United States Department of Education during the Reagan Administration and holds Reagan in the highest regard. Currently, he serves as Director for Citizens United, and has been the President of the Young Americans Foundation for over thirty years.

Time Magazine referred to Robinson as “one of the seasoned generals of the right,” who is leading the “diverse and well-funded” generation of conservatives who are “winning battles on campus.”

He is the co-author of  “Funding Fathers: The Unsung Heroes of the Conservative Movement, Published, of course, by the right-wing Regnery Publishing Company.

Not surprisingly, Robinson served as a Trustee at the Philadelphia Society, a membership only organization that has had considerable influence over the Conservative Movement in this country. He currently serves as a Trustee for the Phillips Foundation, a group that advances Constitutional principles and American Values. The Phillips Foundation awards the annual Reagan Scholarship. Additionally, he is the Vice President of the Free Speech Defense and Education Fund. The FSDEF is noted for its assistance to the Christian Action Network.

Robinson is married to Michelle Easton who is the founder and president of the Clare Booth Luce Policy Institute, a right-wing think tank that seeks to advance women through conservative ideas.

Robinson has all of the credentials and contacts that make him a valuable asset to Citizens United.

Former Representative  Bob Barr

What we know about the former Representative from Georgia’s 7th District is that he is the exact kind of sleazebag that we would expect to be affiliated with Citizens United.  He is a former federal prosecutor and one of the leaders of the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

He served for a short time as the President of the Southeastern Legal Foundation, an Atlanta based law firm and policy center that largely litigates in support of limited government, economic freedom and the free enterprise system.

Columnist Bill Schipp, at one point, called Barr, “the idol of the gun-toting, abortion-fighting, IRS-hating hard right-wing of American politics.” We can take that even further. Barr is a member of the racist, radical group “Sons of Confederate Veterans,” who favor secession and an all-white homeland. He is also the darling of the Council of Conservative Citizens. Both of these groups have been designated as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Barr authored the Defense of Marriage Act, yet he currently claims that it should be repealed. One can only wonder how that plays out with his far-right, Christian-minded buddies. Of course, he then advocated for the practice of Wicca to be banned in the military.

Bob Barr is a contributing editor to the conservative monthly magazine The American Spectator, published by Alfred Regnery and Regnery Publishing, and is on the Board of Advisors for the Texas Review of Law & Politics.

He serves as the 21st Century Liberties Chair for Freedom and Privacy at the American Conservative Union and is on the Board of the Constitution Project as well as the Patrick Henry Center.

As an Honorary Chairman for Citizens United, Bob Barr should feel right at home with the nefarious miscreants who make up that organization.

Foster Freiss

Every organization needs an infusion of cash and Christian charity now and then, right? Enter Foster Freiss right smack-dab into the midst of chicanery, mud-baths, and the wheeling and dealing that surrounds Citizens United.

Freiss is a businessman and generous supporter of Conservative Christian causes. In 2012, he kept the campaign of Presidential hopeful, Rick Santorum, afloat by financing a super PAC, the Red, White and Blue Fund which ran television advertisements on behalf of the candidate.

In addition, Freiss donated at least $100,000 to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to help fight against the recall campaign that was being waged against him; $3 million dollars to Tucker Carlson’s The Daily Caller website, and a cool million to the Koch Brothers political activities.

Along with his benevolence, Foster Freiss in a member of America’s Foundation, Campaign America, Inc., and the Center For Security Policy.

He has served in several capacities, including president, on the Council For National Policy, an extreme right, Christian outfit that wields a ton of power in the halls of Congress. He also sits alongside a bevy of hard-right individuals in the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a pro-Israeli, pro war outfit.

Among his other beneficiaries are the Good Government For America Committee, Grow PAC, Restore Our Future PAC, the Prosperity PAC, and the John Templeton Foundation. The latter claims to give away about $70 million dollars a year in research grants and programs.

Spreading the wealth around, is what Freiss does best, and his friends at Citizens United can smell money from hundreds of miles away. Deep pockets, a little charisma, and a whole lot of clout makes Foster the golden boy of a lot of very devious and money-grubbing organizations and individuals. Money might not buy everything, but it sure speaks with a very loud voice.

Freiss

Again, Citizens United is a small group in comparison with others – but their power reaches far beyond their inner circle. All throughout our halls of government and our policy making institutions, the inner-workings of groups just like this are furthering the dissolution of the coveted separation of church and state and attempting to create a merger of business, government, and theocracy. It is in their hands that our fate lies.

Movers and Shakers – 2 – America Enterprise Institute

American Enterprise Institute

The AEI is one of the oldest and most influential Think Tanks in America. It is a pro-business, right-wing, conservative organization in spite of their claim to be absolutely non-partisan. One of the most troublesome aspects of this group, among man, is their ability to place their people in influential governmental positions.

Located on Seventeenth Street NW in Washington, D.C., the American Enterprise Institute’s Board of Directors is comprised of CEO’s of major companies, including ExxonMobile, Motorola, American Express, State Farm Insurance, and Dow Chemicals.

The top donors to this organization have been the Smith-Richardson Foundation, the Olin Foundation, the Scaife Foundation, and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. On top of that, they receive millions of dollars from their corporate supporters – General Electric, Amoco, Kraft, Ford Motors, General Motors, Kodak, Metropolitan Life, Proctor and Gamble, Alcoa, General Mills, et. al.

Their areas of focus are varied, but generally include America’s culture war, domestic policy and federal spending, education reform, and welfare reform. During the Bush administration, he appointed more than twenty people from this group to senior positions in his administration.  Of course, Vice President Dick Cheney is one of the former Trustees of AEI.

AEI scholars have given testimony before Congress on numerous issues, including the argument that prayer belongs in public schools and doesn’t violate the Establishment Clause. Additionally, they have come out in favor of censorship of the arts, and have advocated heavily for federally funded school voucher programs.

Their list of Fellows and Scholars includes Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Christina Hoff Summers, an anti-feminist crusader, and Charles Murray, author of The Bell Curve.

In 2007, a major climate change report was issued from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). AEI then offered $10,000 to any scientist who could undermine this report and emphasize its shortcomings.

The American Enterprise Institute is a major policy-making organization in this country with close ties to the Heritage Foundation, the Council for National Policy,  ALEC, and the Center for Security Policy. The organization and those affiliated with it, are some of the biggest movers and shakers in shaping policy and legislation in America. They foster extreme right-wing ideological views and help to shape and promote the individuals who will run their extreme agenda in the halls of the United States Government.

No Right Turn Voters Guide

Keeping up with the extremists on the right is, definitely a full time job, and understanding their impact on the political landscape can be a daunting task. In just a few weeks we will be going to the polls to cast some of the most important votes of our lives, and since it is imperative that we cast an informed vote, I am going to be publishing a list of Congressional candidates by state who are ultra-right wing conservatives who will only contribute to the mounting problem of the War on Women, the War on Civil and Human Rights, and the religious zealotry that is beating down the doors of power in this country. Never before has it been more incumbent upon the American citizen to be informed and well versed before casting that ballot.

Watch the list as I will be adding to it as each state is completed.
