One has to wonder just what Martin Luther King, Jr. would have thought about those who would oppress a whole group of people based on sexual orientation. We have to wonder how he would have responded to the concientious stupidity of the radical right wing hate mongers who spew their venom while attempting to persecute homosexuals in the name of God.
Last week, Mat Staver and Sean Akers of the Liberty Counsel demonstrated their ignorance and stupidity, yet again, when they appeared on the Faith and Freedom show hosted by Staver. Outraged that a U.S. Department of Agriculture promoted a Gay Pride event, Staver claimed that the newsletter” is proof that the USDA intimidates employees if they don’t participate.” Akers, on the other hand, argued that the agency is using Saul Alinsky tactics “to wage a quiet revolution” and a “culture war.” – See more at: http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/staver-obama-violating-first-amendment-affirming-immoral-and-unhealthy-homosexuality#sthash.4LzP75hJ.dpuf
They then had their panties in a bunch over a brochure that had been published by DOJPride, which is an LGBT rights group comprised of Department of Justice employees. The brochure was aimed at creating an all-inclusive work environment which Staver and Akers claim “cripples free speech.”
According to Staver, “Essentially what we have in this administration is an LGBT affirmative action program. This is the most outrageous violation of conscience and the First Amendment that I have seen within any federal agency to force people’s conscience to affirm something that historically has been, and according to natural law and biblical revelation, is unnatural, immoral and unhealthy.”
But, the Liberty Counsel is only one of the organizations working overtime to vilify the gay community. We certainly cannot ignore The Family Research Council and their leader, the infamous Tony Perkins who believes that the alarming number of sexual assaults in the military can be blamed upon gays and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
And then there is poor old Mike Huckabee who teamed up with Penny Nance from Concerned Women for America to bemoan the current state of affairs and warn that people who live in states with marriage equality have “lost their rights,” and that every fear that people have had about gay rights is now coming true.
Now, not to be upstaged, Pat Robertson just had to add his two cents to the mix of obtusely ignorant rants on the 700 Club today. From Right Wing Watch:
Following the BSA’s decision to lift its ban on openly gay youth, Robertson on the 700 Club today said that it is a “terrible shame” that a “tiny minority” is “willing to rip apart the framework of traditional marriage; to rip apart an organization that has done so much good for young people, the Boy Scouts; to rip apart certain of these other things that we have counted as important in our society; all for one thing: that the way they do sex will be accepted in the mainstream of society.”
These are some of those people who are considered to be “the chosen ones,” the prophets, the apostles within the Dominionist Movement. Maybe they aren’t familiar with the Bard. Perhaps Shakespeare could enlighten them:

Or, perhaps they would be better off to shut the hell up rather than show their ignorance to the rest of the world.
